The role leads media relations, produces press materials, and coordinates global initiatives with Partners in Communications, Government Affairs and Events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree completed and verified prior to start.
• 7 years of experience in public and media relations in a private/public/government/military environment.
• 5 years of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders in a large organization.
• Master’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or journalism is a plus.
• Experience working with global teams and proven media relationships.
• Strong writing, presentation and interpersonal skills.

As a Global Communications Senior Strategist, you will help advance 3M’s brand reputation and fuel growth opportunities. You will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

• Support global campaigns, activations and communications that advance 3M’s reputation and fuel growth opportunities by leveraging paid, earned, shared and owned channels
• Develop and execute compelling content and thought leadership strategies for cross-functional teams, including Communications, Government Affairs, Sponsorships and Events, and relevant business group partners
• Lead proactive story mining by applying creative thinking to industry trends and company priorities, identifying timely, compelling ideas that advance 3M’s brand
• Build relationships with key media contacts and conduct outreach around enterprise news, initiatives and activations
• Produce owned content, including press releases, messaging documents, News Center stories, etc., to advance company priorities and enable global teams
• Manage content publication to 3M-owned channels, paid platforms, and internal content management systems to advance the brand and enable global teams
• Assist in monitoring, reporting and insight generation for 3M brand, its priority campaigns and key activations
• Serve as a trusted resource and consultant for internal teams, partners and vendors on communications priorities and tactics, including earned media strategies, owned content opportunities, paid media extensions, and KPIs for measurement/reporting
• Support scalable communications delivery through team, vendor and budget coordination

Your Skills and Expertise:

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
• Seven (7) years of experience in public and media relations in a private, public, government or military environment
• Five (5) years of managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders throughout a large organization

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

• Master’s degree in public relations, communications, marketing or journalism from an accredited institution
• Seven (7) years of relevant experience with a demonstrated increase in responsibilities over time
• Experience working with global teams
• Proven ability to convey critical information through compelling and relevant communications, contributing to brand reputation/business growth
• Track record of successful media relationships and impactful story placements
• Demonstrated skill with project coordination, relationship management and tactical execution in a cross-functional environment
• Professional, confident, and positive demeanor, with ability to maintain poise under pressure
• Excellent writing and verbal communications skills, presentation skills, interpersonal skills, and project management skills

Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.

Travel: May include up to 5% travel domestic & international

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
