Job summary

Vital Voices, based in Washington, DC, seeks a senior leader to drive its global communications and engagement strategy. This hybrid role requires two in-person days weekly at the headquarters, with up to 15% travel domestically and internationally.

The VP will elevate the organization’s reputation through PR, digital storytelling, events, and donor engagement, reporting to the Chief External Relations Officer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in a related field with 12+ years in communications, PR, marketing, journalism or international relations.
• Proven experience leading public relations strategies, media relations, executive visibility and reputation management.
• Strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, influencers, and external stakeholders.
• Exceptional writing and storytelling for press releases, op-eds, speeches, and newsletters.
• Experience guiding integrated communications across digital, media, social, and events channels.
• Experience managing strategic events, donor experiences or stakeholder programs.
• Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute an integrated global communications and public relations strategy.
• Advise executives on messaging, media engagement, and external positioning.
• Lead media relations, briefings, press releases, and story development.
• Oversee brand narrative, content strategy across channels, and audience engagement.
• Manage events portfolio and donor experiences in line with priorities.
• Lead internal communications to strengthen culture and alignment.
• Mentor the Communications & Engagement team and supervise key roles.
