Qualifications

Job Description

How You Will Contribute:

The successful candidate will be a member of the Ciena’s Global Commodity Management team and responsible for managing products in the Optics commodity portfolios. Candidate shall be responsible for analyzing optical component market trends, developing commodity strategies, negotiating supplier pricing & business terms, developing supply assurance programs, and serving as Ciena’s subject matter expert for all business related activities associated with commodity.

The Must Haves:

  1. Develop and implement commodity strategies that ensure the utilization of best in class products & suppliers based on Technology, Quality, Supply & Cost
  2. Monitor commodity market trends such as new technology developments, product costs, global supply conditions and competitive supplier landscape to develop strategies that leverage market trends
  3. Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to develop commodity strategies that achieve Ciena’s overall goals & objectives
  4. Serve as lead negotiator to optimize Ciena’s total cost of ownership for optical components over product lifecycle
  5. Resolve critical supply shortages by actively working with suppliers and EMS partners
  6. Identify and mitigate potential supply chain risks associated with Ciena’s suppliers and ensure supply availability for optical components over the product lifecycle
  7. Define & implement supply strategies that minimize Ciena’s supply chain risks and ensure continuity of supply for optical components
  8. Collaborate with R&D to successfully onboard new products that align to commodity strategy
  9. Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers and their management to ensure best in class support to Ciena
  10. Lead recurring business reviews with key suppliers to ensure congruence between Ciena’s goals and supplier’s actions
  11. Support internal stakeholders with the negotiation of legal agreements that facilitate Ciena’s business requirements involving suppliers
  12. Knowledge of different optical technologies, optical component industry, suppliers, and market trends.
  13. Understanding of different optical products such as lasers, optical receivers, modulators, passive optical components, and transceivers
  14. Familiarity with optics manufacturing process including optical fabrication, assembly & test
  15. Experience leading cross functional teams which include R&D, PLM, Quality on key commodity initiatives
  16. Strong negotiation skills
  17. Ability to influence and foster strong relationships both internally and externally
  18. Confidently works well under pressure with strong time management disciplines
  19. Willingness to travel as required
  20. Engineering and/or Business Degree
  21. 3 years or more of experience in Optical procurement
  22. 5 to 10 years of general Procurement experience

Pay Ranges:

The annual pay range for this position is $68,800 - $114,300 CAD.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission. In addition to competitive compensation, Ciena offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision plans, participation in 401(K) (USA) & DCPP (Canada) with company matching, Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP), Employee Assistance Program (EAP), company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
