Job summary

DePuy Synthes is seeking a Global Chemical Compliance SME to lead regulatory strategies across EU, US, and other major markets. You will ensure products and processes meet evolving chemical laws, translate requirements into actionable plans, and partner across R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams.

The role requires a Master’s degree and 10+ years in chemical compliance or related fields, with travel up to 10% and bilingual or multilateral capabilities as an asset. Hybrid work options apply.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Environmental Science, Product Stewardship, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product stewardship, chemistry, materials science, chemical compliance, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • Deep knowledge of global chemical compliance requirements, chemistry, materials science, chemical properties, and environmental product regulations, with hands-on experience applying them.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems, exercise sound judgment, manage competing priorities, and deliver accurate, timely outcomes.
  • Ability to translate technical and legal information into practical guidance and influence across functions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the global subject-matter expert for chemical compliance requirements, including EU REACH and REACH-like regulations, US TSCA, California Proposition 65, US FIFRA, GHS, PIC, Biocides, RoHS, and other applicable regulations.
  • Monitor legislation, policies, and stakeholder expectations; assess applicability and translate business, product, and process impacts into implementation strategies.
  • Develop policies, standards, governance, and mitigation plans for restricted substances, product safety, material composition, and other chemical compliance risks.
  • Partner cross-functionally to embed requirements into product development, design changes, regulatory submissions, manufacturing, supplier activities, and lifecycle decisions.
  • Lead the Chemical Compliance Community of Practice and align business and enterprise experts on positions, best practices, and process improvements.
  • Advance materials and chemicals data strategies, compliance tools, data quality, process harmonization, metrics, and program reporting.
  • Lead governance reviews and support internal, supplier, third-party, and regulatory audits and assessments.
  • Represent DePuy Synthes in relevant trade and industry associations and support global advocacy and continuous improvement.
