Job summary

County of Maui is seeking a skilled GIS Technician I to perform basic GIS tasks under direct supervision. The role involves creating and editing GIS data, producing maps and exhibits, and assisting with field verifications as needed.

Responsibilities include digitizing and georeferencing maps, processing imagery, and supporting the County GIS program with data accuracy and map production. High school graduation with GIS experience is required, plus a driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and two years of GIS, cartographic or drafting experience.
• Experience using GIS software and related applications.
• Knowledge of GIS concepts, map production and data management.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, inputs, edits and maintains the integrity of County GIS data.
• Creates, customizes and revises GIS products such as maps and plans using GIS software.
• Assists in researching and interpreting information from field visits and other sources.
• Maps aerial or satellite imagery to create and maintain GIS data.
• Digitizes, scans, processes, georeferences and orthorectifies maps and other documents.
