Job summary

MJ Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Land Surveying, P.C. is seeking a GIS technician to join our geospatial team. You will contribute to infrastructure mapping, data collection, 3D modeling, and app development.

The role emphasizes GIS mapping, data management, and collaboration with senior staff in a fast-paced environment. A candidate with 2 years of GIS coursework and 1–3 years of experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Fundamental principles and technical skills in GIS mapping and data management including database setup, data development and QA/QC, and map creation.
• Proficiency with the Esri GIS software platform for desktop and web including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
• Setup and utilization of web GIS / GPS field data collection using ArcGIS Online and Esri Field Maps.
• General office software such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Google Earth, etc.

Job description

MJ is actively seeking a GIS technician to join our team to assist with current and exciting future projects. We are seeking a motivated candidate with a strong interest in GIS that is well organized, resourceful, and has strong attention to detail.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Entry- to mid-level member of a geospatial group specializing in all aspects of infrastructure mapping and terrestrial LiDAR including data collection, 3D modeling, mapping, and app development

Work with the team by utilizing a variety of GIS, CAD, and programming software to complete mapping and GIS projects

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of 2 years college coursework with a concentration in GIS, land surveying, or similar with an additional 1-3 years of related experience; or any combination of relevant education and experience that provides proficiency in the following:

The fundamental principles and technical skills related to GIS mapping and data management including database setup, data development and QA/QC, and map creation

The Esri GIS software platform for desktop and web including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online

Setup and utilization of web GIS / GPS field data collection using ArcGIS Online and Esri Field Maps

General office software such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Google Earth, etc.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE A PREFERRED CANDIDATE MAY HAVE, BUT IS NOT REQUIRED:

CAD drafting in AutoCAD or MicroStation

LiDAR data collection, processing, extraction, or management

Data conversion and exchange between GIS and CAD platforms

Web GIS development using ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavasScript or similar

Python scripting and automation

Understanding of ArcGIS Enterprise

Infrastructure record plan georeferencing, interpretation, and data conversion

ABILITY TO:

Read and interpret maps and plan drawings

Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others

Excel in a fast-paced work environment

Learn new skills both independently and under the direction of senior staff

Pay is based on applicant’s ability/experience and will be rated accordingly.
