Job summary

The State of Georgia, Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, is hiring a GIS Specialist (Level 1–3). You will develop, maintain, and update geospatial data for water wells, generate maps, and support online systems while collaborating across the division.

Ideal candidates have an Associate degree related to geography or geology and experience with ESRI GIS tools, geodatabases, and cartographic principles. Strong communication is essential in a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in cartography, forestry, geography, geology, or related field.
  • Experience with GIS applications and ESRI software.
  • Knowledge of relational spatial databases and data analysis.
  • Good written and verbal communication; collaborative work.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and update water well receptor data and create maps using GIS/ESRI tools.
  • Respond to GORA requests and update EPD’s Drupal site; support online systems (LEMIR/GEOS/FIS).
  • Test software, provide input to IT, and QA data for online systems; assist external customers.
  • Collaborate across the Division and participate in modernization projects.

The incumbent will also be expected to provide support for current EPD online Systems (LEMIR/GEOS/FIS), including but not limited to serving as backup for the Land LEMIR Administrator and providing support by assisting external customers, uploading documents, quality control/quality assurance of data, testing and troubleshooting online systems, and pursuing maintenance with EPD IT and the contractor. As part of EPD's Modernizing Permitting and Compliance System Project, the incumbent will be expected to test various software and provide input to EPD IT.
