Georgia Department of Natural Resources is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist in Cartersville, GA. Under supervision, you will learn to evaluate programs for compliance with environmental laws and to recommend monitoring and corrective actions.

You will conduct inspections of solid waste and construction stormwater facilities, receive and investigate complaints, and prepare enforcement documents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, or engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Two to three years of professional experience in environmental protection for higher levels or progression from a lower level.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance inspections is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Learn to evaluate programs for compliance with environmental laws and regulations and recommend monitoring and corrective/enforcement actions.
  • Conduct compliance inspections of solid waste and construction stormwater facilities; receive and investigate complaints; initiate enforcement documents.

Job Description:
  • Under supervision, learns to evaluate programs for compliance with environmental laws, rules, and regulations and recommend monitoring and corrective/enforcement actions.
  • This position is in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division – Mountain District Office, located in Cartersville, GA.
  • The incumbent in this position is responsible for conducting compliance inspections (routine, follow-up, and complaint) of assigned solid waste and construction stormwater facilities; receiving and investigating complaints; initiating and preparing enforcement documents; conducting enforcement conferences; completing monthly reports; and maintaining databases on all assigned permitted facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • RCP020 – Environmental Compliance Specialist 1 Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, Engineering or other closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • RCP021 – Environmental Compliance Specialist 2 Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, Engineering or other closely related field from an accredited college or university. AND Two (2) years of professional job-related experience in environmental protection. OR One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Environmental Compliance Specialist 1 (RCP020) or equivalent position.
  • RCP022 – Environmental Compliance Specialist 3 Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, Engineering or other closely related field from an accredited college or university. AND Three (3) years of professional job-related experience in environmental protection. OR One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Environmental Compliance Specialist 2 (RCP021) or equivalent position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting regulatory compliance inspections.
  • Experience enforcing rules and laws.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with databases.
  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, or other closely related field from an accredited college or university.
