Job summary

The County of Santa Barbara seeks a skilled GIS professional to prepare maps, reports, and graphics, and to manage spatial data for countywide operations. You will collaborate with users to define data needs, maintain databases, and ensure accuracy and compliance with standards, while supporting multiple departments and external partners.

Required are a related bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with strong GIS/CAD skills, data analysis, and the ability to communicate complex information

Qualifications

• Possession of a bachelor’s degree in cartography, geography, GIS, or closely related field.
• Four years of paraprofessional, automated map generation experience or equivalent.
• Combination of training, education, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Produce maps, graphics, diagrams, and reports for departmental use and external entities.
• Meet with users to define data needs and GIS/CAD project requirements and outputs.
• Develop and maintain GIS/CAD databases and metadata, ensuring data quality.
• Provide technical mapping support and may supervise others for accuracy and standards.
• Explain laws and procedures related to map preparation to other departments and the public.
