Job summary

Doyon Utilities is seeking a GIS Intern to support the GIS Analyst and GIS Technician. You will perform data entry and modification in GIS, support project teams, and conduct on-site field work to collect GIS information for entry into the GIS system.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and is based in Fairbanks, Alaska. Training will cover ArcGIS tools and data standards. This is an in-person opportunity with potential for growth within the team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Pursuing bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, IT or related fields; substitution with experience possible.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; high proficiency expected.
• Basic experience with ArcGIS Map, Arc Pro, ArcSDE for SQL Server; high proficiency expected.
• Familiarity with Spatial Data Standard for Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE).
• Basic level experience with GPS data collection.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to work with limited supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation.
• Enthusiastic about learning, pushing technical limits and finding new solutions.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Perform updates and edits within ArcGIS system.
• Ensure data accuracy and reliability of MDMS reports.
• Prepare maps and data records as necessary.
• Conduct GPS field collections of utilities.
• Review mapping data from government agencies or contractors for accuracy.
• Participate as a member of project teams.
• Communicate project activities to leadership and management.
