Job summary

The City of New York’s Department of Youth and Community Development seeks a GIS College Aide to support the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion unit with spatial analysis and visualization tasks. You will write scripts (Python or Arcade) to automate map products and collaborate on data-driven insights for programmatic decisions.

You will locate and process demographic and census data, prepare maps in ArcGIS Pro/AGOL, and produce charts, reports, and recommendations. Assignment Levels I–III apply.

Qualifications

• Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school; employment conditioned on continued student status.
• For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): matriculation at college with IT coursework incl. 9 credits.
• For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): matriculation at college with IT coursework incl. 9 credits; appointments by Technology Steering Committee.

Responsibilities

• Locate, process, and acquire demographic, census, or open-source data sets.
• Format data for analytic software.
• Prepare maps and displays using ESRI ArcGIS Pro and/or AGOL.
• Work with census data, agency program data, and other sources to do spatial analysis.
• Clean, analyze and interpret complex social, economic, and population data; provide recommendations.
• Prepare charts and graphs, write reports, and present results.
• Complete other special projects as requested.
