Job summary

City of North Port invites a GIS Specialist to coordinate Geographic Information Systems, prepare maps and maintain address databases, ensuring reliable data for permitting, public safety and planning.

Under supervision, you will work with Planning, IT, ERP, Fire/EMS and other departments, develop GIS standards, and provide training and reports. A Bachelor's degree is preferred with four years of GIS experience; GIS certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GIS terminology, techniques, practices, principles, applications and database development.
• Knowledge of GIS software including ArcGIS Pro, Spatial Analyst and Arc GIS Online.
• Knowledge of GIS to manage, manipulate, model and represent data.
• Knowledge of methods to research geospatial, census and demographic data.
• Knowledge of data analysis methods.
• Knowledge of laws and policies in community planning.
• Proficient with PCs, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, GIS and scanning software.
• Ability to establish relationships with consultants, City staff and the public.
• Ability to conduct analysis, interpret findings and translate ideas into procedures.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines.
• Ability to plan and judge situations in accordance with policies.
• Ability to work independently and accurately.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Working knowledge of SQL and ERP Land Records systems.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate GIS data to support planning related projects.
• Develop standards and procedures for GIS map and database maintenance, including online map services.
• Collaborate with City departments and external agencies to integrate planning information into the City GIS.
• Perform complex analyses for projects and staff requests.
• Create maps, graphics, and written reports of geospatial data.
• Respond to public and interdepartmental inquiries about geographic information.
• Create promotional/educational materials as needed.
• Assist in community planning and development projects.
• Serve as liaison between Planning and IT departments.
• Stay current with GIS technologies and recommend improvements.
• Maintain address databases and ensure compliance with addressing policies.
• Consult with postal, 911, utilities and other agencies on addressing issues.
• Provide technical assistance and improve Land Management workflows.
• Maintain Land Management data transfer and ERP integration.
• Create and update parcels, streets, and address records.
• Analyze data for inconsistencies and correct data as needed.
• Review land audit reports and report findings.
