Job summary

Norwalk Public Schools seek a Long-term Substitute Teacher for Gifted and Talented (2026-2027 SY) at Ponus Ridge Middle School. You will organize, implement, and support modified instructional strategies for atypical students in gifted/essential education classes.

You will design lessons, collaborate with teams, and conduct conferences with parents while tracking student progress and adjusting interventions as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience working with gifted or atypical students
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to listen actively and respond to learning needs
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues and families
• Understanding of SEM Enrichment Model, Co-Teaching, and identification processes

Responsibilities

• Follow scope and sequence defined by the Norwalk Board of Education
• Maintain classroom management and positive learning environment
• Prepare lesson plans aligned to objectives and student needs
• Identify students for programming and assess progress
• Maintain accurate records and communicate with parents
• Collaborate in team teaching to support program goals
• Conduct parent/teacher conferences and contribute to evaluation teams
• Design instruction for individual and small groups
• Support ethical student behavior and school community image
