Job summary

Mt. San Rafael Hospital Gift Shop is seeking a Gifts Shop & Volunteer Services Assistant to handle sales, stock, and merchandising with a professional demeanor. You will work with staff and volunteers to ensure a welcoming experience for visitors.

Responsibilities include customer service, POS sales, inventory control, attractive displays, and coordinating volunteers, while supporting the Marketing & Volunteer Services Coordinator and the CEO.

Qualifications

• Customer service and sales skills are required.
• Ability to process cash, credit card, and payroll deduction transactions.
• Strong computer skills and merchandising knowledge.
• Strong oral communication and teamwork.
• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Greet and treat all guests in a professional and friendly manner; creating a positive experience for all visitors
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and sales skills
• Process retail sales utilizing point of sale system
• Complete cash, credit card, and employee payroll deduction transactions
• Inventory: stock, unpack new merchandise, organize storage, check invoices, notify when stock is running low
• Organize and clean Gift Shop on a daily basis
• Ensure merchandise presentable and well stocked
• Design/organize attractive displays of merchandise
• Balance cash and deposits at end of shift
• Provide information to guests about hospital, events, and directions
• Assist with recruitment, training, onboarding, supervision, and recognition of volunteers
• Assist with managing volunteer schedules and communications
• Assist the marketing department with administrative duties
• Other duties as assigned

Position Description:

The Gift Shop & Volunteer Services Assistant is responsible for sales of various products within the Mt. San Rafael Hospital Gift Shop. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining stock and merchandising of the shop, while ensuring displays are clean and tidy and appropriate for the given sales seasons. Working individually, with a team member, or volunteers, the Assistant must maintain professionalism and courtesy to all guests who visit the Gift Shop and Mt. San Rafael Hospital and Clinics. The Assistant reports to the Marketing & Volunteer Services Coordinator and the CEO.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Greet and treat all guests in a professional and friendly manner; creating a positive experience for all visitors
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and sales skills
• Process retail sales utilizing point of sale system
• Complete cash, credit card, and employee payroll deduction transactions
• Have general knowledge of merchandise and prices, including stock in storageInventory, as needed – includes checking inventory within the store and making computer corrections, if necessary; moving inventory from storage areas to shop, packing up merchandise within the shop and organizing it within the storage area, unloading new merchandise, comparing incoming stock to invoices and computer inventory, arranging new merchandise within the shop; and notifying Marketing & Volunteer Services Coordinator when stock is running low
• Organize and clean Gift Shop on a daily basis (housekeeping mops floors and removes trash)
• Ensure all merchandise is presentable and well stocked
• Design/organize attractive eye-catching displays of merchandise within the shop
• Ensure storage areas are well organized and boxes are labeled clearly
• Balance cash, credit cards, and payroll deductions at the end of each shift and make deposit with hospital cashier’s office
• Provide general information to guests regarding the hospital and clinics and the surrounding area, including sales events, visitor information, general directions of the facility
• Assist with recruitment, training, onboarding, supervision, and recognition of volunteers
• Assist with managing volunteer schedules and communicating volunteer/gift shop-related matters
• Assist the marketing department with various administrative duties – includes printing/folding documents, making copies, hanging or changing décor/signage, delivering paperwork or materials to other departments, assisting with events
• Other duties as assigned
