Job summary

The Nature Conservancy in Arlington, VA seeks a Gift Planning Officer to lead bequest and life income gift activity within the Development department. The role closes 200–250 planned gifts annually and handles 1,000–1,500 donor interactions, while conveying the Conservancy’s mission to diverse constituencies.

Requirements include 5+ years in gift planning, a Bachelor’s degree, and a proven ability to close gifts of $25k+.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
• Experience in fundraising principles and practices.
• Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with fundraising constituents.
• Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more.
• Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.
• Experience working with diverse cross-functional teams.
• Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy’s work.
• Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.
• Ability to implement and manage fundraising plans, including individualized cultivation, solicitation and recognition plans.
• Working knowledge of the basics of charitable gift planning and current trends in capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.
• Proven ability to negotiate high profile or sensitive agreements.

Responsibilities

• Convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups over the phone.
• Responsible for persuasively conveying the mission of TNC to diverse groups over the phone.
• Close 200–250 planned gifts and bequest notifications annually.
• Manage 1,000–1,500 donor interactions annually.
• Report to the Director of Bequests & Annuities and be based at the Arlington, VA headquarters.
