Sempulse is seeking a Get Things Done Medical Device Sales Leader + Doer to drive a new commercial sales process. The role demands selling to physicians and hospital administrators, with a track record in medical devices and a willingness to own and optimize the sales process, including AI-assisted tools and CRM usage.
The position is founder-friendly, field-heavy with travel, and offers significant upside through uncapped commissions as the company scales toward larger VP-level deals.
Searching for a 'Get Things Done' Medical Device Sales Leader + Doer
We are a well-funded, late-stage medical device startup with our sights set on saving lives. If you've worn the uniform, treated the wounded, or built your career around saving lives some other way, this mission will feel personal, not just professional. We have FDA-cleared, non-invasive hardware sensors that acquire patients' vital signs anytime, anywhere. We have tens of thousands of devices under negotiation with U.S. and foreign militaries. Our commercial sales should eventually be 10x our military sales. Get in now, at the start of that commercial ramp, and the upside is real: target total compensation starts around $200,000 as we grow and then it grows towards $400,000 or more as your track record, team, and the role grow towards a more traditional VP of Sales, with outsized accelerators on volume deals like the 15,000-unit contract we have in negotiation today.
We're looking for an individual to be responsible for our sales process and leadership. You need to know medical devices well enough to talk to physicians and hospital administrators, backed by a real track record of selling to hospital providers. If you were a combat medic, corpsman, EMT, or nurse before you were in sales, even better: you already speak the clinical language fluently, and physicians can tell the difference immediately. We want someone who can sell, and who genuinely loves selling medical devices: hungry, driven, and willing to bet on themselves. Someone who can get things done and has worn multiple hats would be ideal. This is a real startup, not a startup in name only: shifting priorities and doing whatever the day actually requires, not just what's in a job description. If that sounds energizing rather than exhausting, keep reading. I've learned that just grabbing someone who’s in senior leadership at a Medtronic or similar only gets you someone who can live in a narrow swim lane. We are building our commercial sales process and need a leader who can close volume deals, not just open conversations. You should be obsessed with sales process automation and AI, living in your CRM, testing AI-assisted sales tools, and pushing the process forward yourself. We want you to finish standing our AI sales process up and then own it for us.
If you haven't sold medical devices in the past, please stop here. That’s the bare minimum to be considered. If you're looking for an established team, a fixed 40-hour week, or a playbook someone else already wrote, this isn't the role for you either.
What we're really looking for is someone intelligent, ambitious, and who can keep track of lots of things at once. We need someone who doesn’t have to be told something twice. You must learn fast, apply it immediately, and see both the forest and the trees. Ultimately, we're looking for aptitude and not experience. Above all: ethical, and genuinely confident enough to bet on themselves, backed by results, not ego.
We need a player-coach from day one: someone who builds a repeatable sales process while personally prospecting, running demos, and closing deals. You must learn quickly, manage a large pipeline, and know when to go wide and when to go deep. This role will grow into the VP of Sales position for the right person. Field travel is expected at <30 percent for key accounts, conferences, and demos. The ideal candidate has sold a new-to-market medical devices into a non-hospital setting, particularly in emergency medicine, critical care transport, or prehospital care. Hospital sales are also good, but probably not our target for the first 6 months since they'll take longer to prime the pump.
We have great products, validated by the US Military, NATO, The Cleveland Clinic, Gates Foundation, and others. We also have more than $5 million in incoming grants, on top of the commercial deals already in motion. I'd love to go into more details here, so we can find the best possible candidate, but we have confidentiality issues to contend with. I can say that we have a 15k unit deal under negotiation today and lots in the pipeline. More details will have to wait until we sign an NDA and have a (virtual) cup of coffee.
Confidence is good. If you have something to prove and know you’re ready for more responsibility, don’t let age, tenure, or experience hold you back: this is a role that rewards betting on yourself. We believe in surrounding ourselves with the best and brightest, so should you.
Sales Strategy and Revenue Growth:
No offshore resources or hiring agents need respond. You would predominantly work remotely with bimonthly 3-4 day trips. Additional considerations will be given to individuals located in the San Diego, San Antonio, Austin, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, or Washington, DC areas.
You do not need to check every box below. The more of these you check, the stronger the fit, but real hustle and half this list beats a polished resume with none of it.
Target total compensation starts at approximately $200,000, with no more than 60% as base and the rest in uncapped commission that accelerates sharply on volume, so closers who land 50+ unit deals see outsized payouts, and with a 15,000-unit deal already in negotiation, that upside is real. As your track record grows and this role grows into VP of Sales, target total compensation grows towards $400,000 or higher. To make the jump easier, your first 90 days include up to a $15,000 non-recoverable draw on top of base while you build your pipeline.
