  • Monitor quality and performance measures for compliance with VA directives and Joint Commission standards.
  • Support quality assurance activities to improve patient safety and care; assist with research projects as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Rehabilitation, Nursing, Social Work, Pharmacy, Chaplain Service, Infection Control, and leadership to conduct in-service trainings.
  • Serve on CNH Review Committee as physician member and assist with follow-up visits.

Job description

Located in downtown Baltimore, the Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a premier facility within the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) and an academic affiliate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM). The Baltimore VAMC is a modern 324-bed facility adjacent to University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC). Both hospitals are conveniently connected by a walkway which facilitates integration of educational, research and clinical activities. Our facility is known for its advanced medical care, cutting-edge research, and collaborative teaching environment.

The Baltimore VAMC is one of only a few VA Medical Centers in the country with two large federally funded programs in geriatrics - Geriatric Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC) and a Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center. It is currently ranked as one of the top VA Medical Centers in VA-funded research.

Duties:
  • Provide direct patient care and /or attending oversight which include completing admission H&P, progress notes, transfer notes, all day-to-day aspects of patient care, discharge planning and participation in family conferences.

  • Provide occasional coverage for the other Community Living Center (CLC) Licensed Independent Providers (LIP) which may include: admission evaluations, daily care planning, chart reviews, quality improvement strategies, education etc.

  • Participate in the creation of policies, procedures and guidelines to assure provision of adequate good quality comprehensive services and ensure compliance with performance improvement standards applicable to Geriatrics and Extended Care Service operations.

  • Participate in the monitoring of quality and performance measures within the CLC for compliance with federal statues, VA directives and polices, the Joint Commission standards, performance measures and other VA regulations.

  • Participate in quality assurance activities to improve patient safety, performance, and quality of care and support research projects that may be instituted at the CLC.

  • Collaborate with key disciplines such as Rehabilitation, Nursing, Social Workers, Recreation Therapy, Pharmacy, Chaplain Service, Infection Control, organizational formal and informal leadership with establishing employee's in-service and trainings.

  • Serve as the physician member of CNH Review Committee providing expert advice and oversight and assisting with plans for follow up visits. The physician may make follow-up VVC or telephone visits when indicated by the patient's discharge plan, or upon recommendations from the CNH Review Team.

  • Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality of patient medical information; ensure accurate CPT coding.

Work Schedule:

8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Performance Pay:

up to 15K annually

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
