Job summary

Rush University Medical Center is seeking a Geriatric Psychiatrist to provide comprehensive psychiatric care for older patients. The ideal candidate will manage complex conditions and work closely with other specialists, while also participating in the education of medical students and residents.

The position requires an M.D. or D.O. with completion of a Psychiatry Residency and preferably a Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry. A competitive compensation package of $240,000 - $310,000 is offered.

  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in Illinois.

Geriatric Psychiatry – Clinical Faculty

Position: Geriatric Psychiatrist.

Clinical Care
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and management for patients aged 65 and older across various settings, including outpatient clinics and consultation‑liaison services within the hospital.
  • Diagnose and treat complex conditions such as major neurocognitive disorders (dementia), mood disorders (geriatric depression), anxiety disorders, and psychosis in the context of advanced age and medical comorbidities.
  • Collaborate closely with neurologists, geriatricians, primary care providers, and neuropsychologists to develop integrated care plans.
Education and Teaching
  • Actively participate in the teaching of medical students and psychiatry residents.
  • Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and clinical supervision on topics specific to late‑life mental illness, psychopharmacology in the elderly, and ethical issues in geriatric care.
  • Serve as a mentor to trainees interested in careers in geriatric psychiatry.
Position Requirements
  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), or equivalent degree.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency program.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry is preferred.
  • Board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Illinois (or eligible for licensure).
Compensation & Benefits

Pay Range: $240,000 - $310,000.
