Job summary

UC Health is hiring a PRN Psych Tech for the 6 Ridgeway Psychiatry unit at UC Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. The 20-bed mixed geriatric/psychiatric unit focuses on older adults with primary psychiatric diagnoses.

The TPW collaborates with the healthcare team to maintain a therapeutic milieu and safe environment while assisting RNs with patient care and daily activities. Join UC Health’s Psychiatric Emergency team to work with skilled clinicians, provide essential support in patient treatment

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required; college coursework preferred.
• STNA certification or coursework in nursing/psychiatry/social work preferred.
• Minimum six months direct patient care experience in psychiatric setting or equivalent coursework.
• Specialized training in phlebotomy, vitals, ADLs experience preferred.
• NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain therapeutic milieu and a safe environment for psychiatric patients under RN direction.
• Engage in population-appropriate communication and assess patient needs.
• Provide clear treatment instructions to patients and families; involve guardians in care.
• Identify physical limitations and apply appropriate interventions.
• Monitor for abuse/neglect and respond promptly.
• Assist with clinical duties (phlebotomy, vital signs, EKG, daily weights) as directed by RN.
• Co-lead treatment groups and supervise therapeutic activities (e.g., Goals Group, Exercise Group).
• Assist in crisis management and participate in quality improvement activities.
• Transport patients to X-ray/clinic appointments as needed.
