Job summary

FiftyForward provides Adult Day Services and seeks an Activity Coordinator to plan, implement and evaluate daily activities for older adults, aligned with the program mission and licensure requirements.

Responsibilities include managing calendars, preparing supplies two weeks in advance, coordinating transportation with a 15-passenger bus and a van, supervising interns and volunteers, and overseeing the activity supplies budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Social Work, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience working with frail older adults or in a similar setting.
  • Must maintain a good driving record and have a Driver’s License with F endorsement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; proficient in using computers and basic office equipment.

  • Maintains activity calendar; prepares materials and supplies for at least two weeks in advance.
  • Cooperates with community groups to address participant needs.
  • Operates ADS transportation using a 15-passenger bus and an 11-passenger van; assists participants boarding/alighting.
  • Supervises student interns, aides and volunteers; manages activity supplies budget.
  • Assists with movement and supervision during activities and in the building.
  • Supports Program Director in fees collection, staff supervision and program operations when needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Adult Day Services Activity Coordinator plans, implements and evaluates the daily program activities according to the mission and goals of FiftyForward, Adult Day Services standards, the needs of the individual participants and within licensure and funder expectations.

Core Responsibilities
  1. Plans, implements and evaluates activities in the daily program in order to fulfill the requirements of individual treatment plans which include crafts, recreation/social activities, health/physical exercise.
  2. Maintains activity calendar and has activities ready to implement (supplies purchased, lessons planned or kits prepared) for a minimum of two weeks in advance.
  3. Collaborates with organizations, agencies and other community groups to meet the needs of participants and for participants to address community needs.
  4. Drivers ADS vehicles including a 15-passenger bus and 11 passenger van providing daily transportation for participants to and from the program and for program activities. Assists program participants on and off vehicle. Makes no stops prior to arriving at Center, without prior approval.
  5. Provides task supervision for student interns, aides, and volunteers in activities with ADS participants.
  6. Manages activity supplies budget, including ordering and purchasing craft supplies.
  7. Assists with movement and supervision of participants in various activities within and outside of the building.
  8. Serves in the absence of the Program Director, as needed, to collect fees, supervise staff and assure efficient program operations.
  9. Does other duties as assigned.
Core Work Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy, Social Work, or a related field. Extensive experience with older adults in a similar role may be considered.

Experience: 1 to 3 years’ experience working with frail older adults and caregivers.

Special Skills: Knowledge of and interest in crafts, recreational, social and educational activities suitable for older adults. Must maintain good driving record. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Certifications and Licenses: Driver’s License with F endorsement

Physical Aspects: Ability to work in a smoke free environment and shared space. Able to bend, stoop, push, pull, stand for long periods, lift and carry up to 25 pounds and ascend/descend stairs.

Equipment Requirements: Proficient in utilizing a computer, printer, copier, facsimile, and telephone equipment. Drive van and/or bus and utilize lift equipment.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week between regular program hours of 7AM to 5:30PM, shift times may vary, with the ability to work some early mornings and late evenings.
