Job summary

The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a 1-year Research Scientist Associate III in Geothermal Engineering, focusing on reservoir flow conformance and flow control technologies for next‑generation Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS).

The successful candidate will conduct cutting‑edge research to characterize fracture connectivity and optimize fluid distribution within granites and sedimentary rocks, maximizing heat sweep efficiency.

Qualifications

  • MS with 2+ years in petroleum/geothermal engineering or earth sciences with relevant geothermal experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in porous/fractured-media flow and subsurface transport.
  • Experience in reservoir flow conformance and flow control.
  • Experience with reservoir simulation tools such as CMG/TOUGH/MOOSE/ResFrac.
  • Strong understanding of multiphase flow and heat transport.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or similar.
  • Excellent data management and scientific writing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize fracture connectivity and optimize fluid distribution in granites and sedimentary rocks.
  • Model and optimize engineering solutions for flow control and conformance.
  • Publish peer‑reviewed papers and present at conferences.
  • Identify funding opportunities and help write proposals.
  • Collaborate across geosciences and engineering disciplines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
