JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Certerra – Black Eagle Consulting supports the Division Manager in field exploration, laboratory testing, report preparation, and construction oversight. The role involves approximately 80% office work and 20% fieldwork, which may include travel and overnight stays. The environment is dynamic, requiring self-motivation and regional exploration enthusiasm.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 10+ years of geotechnical engineering design experience
• ABET-accredited degree in civil, geological, mining engineering, or similar
• Experience in geotechnical engineering and materials testing
• OSHA 30-Hour Certification
• Valid driver's license for company insurance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Nevada PE registration
• ACI Concrete Field-Testing Grade 1
• NAQTC Certifications (sampling & density, aggregates, asphalt)
• Nuclear density gauge proficiency
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and in teams

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate daily with the Division Manager
• Conduct geotechnical investigations and oversee laboratory testing and construction
• Prepare bids, estimates, and review geotechnical data
• Train junior staff
• Lead pre-construction meetings with agencies and clients
• Perform analyses and prepare reports on geotechnical findings
• Manage field exploration, in-situ testing, and geophysical investigations
• Participate in professional development and community groups
• Oversee grading, earthwork, and foundation inspections
• Perform soil and rock analysis, stability assessments, and foundation design
• Review invoices and manage project budgets
• Create Change Order requests for scope or budget adjustments
