Job summary

The University of Maine invites applications for a non-tenure-track Assistant Research Professor to lead the AS2 project and teach geotechnical engineering courses. Initial appointment is for two years, with a January 1, 2027 start.

The role includes supervising students and developing lab- and field-scale testing methodologies. The successful candidate will analyze data, publish scholarly work, and present results to sponsors.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date.
• Demonstrated research experience in geotechnical engineering, soil stabilization, geomaterials, mineral carbonation, cementitious materials, or related processes.
• Evidence of ability to conduct and communicate high-quality research, including peer-reviewed publications or conference presentations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, sponsors, and external partners.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain authorization to access secured sites as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead AS2 project activities and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
• Develop, evaluate, and document laboratory- and field-scale testing methodologies.
• Analyze and interpret data; prepare scholarly and technical outputs for sponsors and stakeholders.
• Teach two courses per academic year (one undergraduate, one graduate) in geotechnical engineering.
• Mentor students and pursue external funding and complementary research initiatives.
