Job summary

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maine invites applications for an Assistant Research Professor to advance the AS2 project on accelerated mineral carbonation for soil stabilization. The role combines research leadership with teaching, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and dissemination of results to sponsors and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will deliver two courses per year (one undergraduate, one graduate) and develop

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or closely related field by start date.
• Demonstrated research experience in geotechnical engineering, soil stabilization, geomaterials, mineral carbonation, cementitious materials, or related processes.
• Ability to conduct and communicate high-quality research, including peer-reviewed publications, reports, or conference presentations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, project sponsors, and external partners.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain authorization to access secured facilities as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead research activities for the AS2 project and supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
• Develop, evaluate, and document lab- and field-scale testing methodologies.
• Analyze and interpret research data; prepare scholarly and technical outputs.
• Teach two courses per academic year (one undergrad, one grad) in geotechnical engineering.
• Pursue external funding and mentor students.
