Schnabel is an employee-owned engineering and consulting firm with a focus on geotechnical, geostructural, tunnel, and dam engineering. We seek a mid-level Geotechnical Engineer to support our North Carolina practice in Wilmington, NC.

You will collaborate with a team of professionals, manage investigations, and develop reports under senior mentorship. The ideal candidate will have a Civil Engineering degree, NC PE eligibility within six months, and 5+ years of geotechnical consulting

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Professional Engineering registration in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
• 5+ years of relevant professional experience in consulting geotechnical engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop geotechnical scope of services and fee estimates.
• Planning and oversight of geotechnical investigations.
• Manage geotechnical and construction-phase observation and testing field work.
• Assign, review and interpret geotechnical laboratory tests.
• Create basic plans and figures using AutoCAD, GIS, and Microstation.
• Prepare boring logs using gINT and/or OpenGround Cloud software.
• Perform geotechnical engineering analysis and calculations.
• Develop geotechnical engineering recommendations and write reports.
• Project-management tasks including budgets, invoicing and backlog reporting.
• Manage client relationships and business development opportunities.
• Mentor junior engineers and balance workload across offices.
• Occasionally perform field work on site.
