Job summary

Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. is seeking a near-entry level Geotechnical Engineer to support geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing/inspection projects across public and private sectors.

You will perform field explorations, in-situ testing, laboratory analysis, and develop technical reports under supervision of Professional Engineers. The role offers growth toward a Project Engineer I position, with responsibilities ranging from project planning to client

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience; internships count.
  • EIT certification required.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans and specs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Office and field work ability.
  • Evenings/weekends and travel availability.
  • Lift 60–80 pounds including samples/equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support geotechnical and CMT projects for public and private clients.
  • Conduct test borings and pit observations during subsurface explorations.
  • Collect, review, and analyze field and laboratory data.
  • Classify soils and evaluate subsurface conditions per standards.
  • Review CMT field reports for accuracy in a PM role.
  • Prepare geotechnical calculations, analyses, and reports.
  • Assist in evaluating subsurface conditions and form recommendations.
  • Support project planning with engineers and PMs.
  • Perform occasional on-site CMT testing and inspections (soil, concrete).
  • Ensure testing complies with standards, specs, and QA requirements.
