Hurt & Proffitt is seeking a geotechnical project engineer or project geologist with four to six years of relevant experience to support our geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing practice in our Lynchburg office. The role focuses on subsurface investigations, engineering evaluations, technical reporting, and construction-phase services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology, or closely related field is required.
  • Four to six years of progressively responsible geotechnical engineering or engineering geology experience.
  • Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist licensure; candidates eligible to obtain licensure within ~12 months are considered.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate subsurface investigations with project managers, including boring locations, access, and field schedules.
  • Lead field investigations, classify soil/rock cores, collect groundwater readings, and prepare boring logs.
  • Coordinate and assign laboratory testing for soil and rock cores and interpret data.
  • Perform geotechnical calculations for foundations, earthwork, slopes, pavements, and ground-improvement systems.
  • Develop geotechnical reports and provide technical guidance to field staff.
  • Review field/test reports for accuracy and consistency with project requirements.
