Job summary

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Denver team. This role supports civil design for dams, embankments, fish passage facilities, hatcheries, and other water resources projects.

You will work under project managers, applying design methods, preparing reports, conducting geotechnical investigations, dam safety inspections, and construction monitoring. The position can be in-person or hybrid.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering required.
  • Licensed or eligible to obtain P.E. certification.
  • Hands-on fieldwork experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience; dam projects experience a plus.
  • Proficiency in field logging, classification, in situ and laboratory testing of soils/rocks.
  • Familiarity with industry/design codes preferred but not required.
  • Ability to interpret design intent from contract documents and drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and remain self-motivated.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute subsurface geotechnical investigations with subcontractor coordination.
  • Perform geotechnical modeling and analysis using industry software.
  • Provide design recommendations for foundations, slopes, and embankments.
  • Perform dam safety inspections for existing dams.
  • Develop project-specific design criteria per codes and standards.
  • Collect and organize historical project data and specifications.
  • Prepare geotechnical data and design reports for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Communicate with multidisciplinary teams to interpret geotechnical conditions.
  • Collaborate with drafting staff to prepare/revise project drawings.
  • Conduct construction monitoring and QA on active sites.
