Qualifications

Geotechnical, Testing & Inspections Group Manager

Location: Raleigh, NC

The Opportunity

An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Geotechnical, Materials Testing and/or Special Inspections professional to lead and grow an established team in the Raleigh market.

This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for the overall performance and growth of the department. The successful individual will oversee a team of project managers, engineers, technicians and inspectors while taking ownership of client relationships, business development, financial performance and technical quality.

With an established workload and strong existing project portfolio, this is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial engineering leader who wants to build upon an existing operation and expand its presence across Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Geotechnical, Materials Testing and Special Inspections group
• Manage and mentor project managers, engineers, technicians, inspectors and support staff
• Take ownership of the department's financial performance, including P&L
• Establish and achieve revenue, profitability and growth objectives
• Develop new and existing client relationships throughout Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina
• Lead business development initiatives, networking and client engagement
• Oversee invoicing and revenue recognition for the department
• Review project contracts and support contract negotiations where required
• Maintain strong levels of client satisfaction and service
• Prepare and review proposals, technical reports and project deliverables
• Provide technical leadership and review when necessary
• Ensure projects and deliverables are completed efficiently and to a high technical standard
• Train and mentor junior engineers, technicians and inspectors
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and service lines within the wider organisation
• Support marketing and professional networking activities across the region

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Professional Engineer (PE) licence required
• Ability to obtain North Carolina PE registration through reciprocity within six months if currently registered in another state
• 10+ years of relevant experience within Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Materials Testing and/or Special Inspections
• Strong technical knowledge within either Geotechnical Engineering or Testing/Inspections
• Previous leadership and personnel management experience
• Experience managing client relationships and supporting business development
• Strong understanding of project financials and commercial performance
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable working within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary consulting environment
• Experience preparing or reviewing proposals, technical reports and contracts
• Understanding of risk management and loss prevention
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and relevant engineering software
• Valid driving record and ability to meet standard employment screening requirements
