Job summary

The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Research Associate in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department. The position is based on campus and focuses on GEER communications, operations, deployments, education and outreach, and data archiving activities.

You will coordinate with science advisory groups, virtual reconnaissance teams, and field deployment efforts to ensure efficient data collection, indexing, and dissemination to advance hazard science.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three (3) years of professional or research experience collecting, processing and analyzing geotechnical and/or geospatial data.
• Experience with project management and data management practices.
• Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
• Experience with field work for geotechnical characterization under difficult conditions.
• Demonstrated experience with field data analysis and development of computational tools such as AI, machine vision, remote sensing data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Extreme Event Response coordination and support during and after events, ensuring perishable data availability through GEER and partners.
• Data generation and dissemination for open AI-ready datasets to advance hazard research.
• Lead outreach and communication strategy with stakeholders and the scientific community; manage GEER website and newsletters.
• Develop data management protocols for AI-ready datasets and coordinate NHERI Designsafe data archiving.
• Maintain field equipment and deploy with GEER teams and participate in reconnaissance studies.
