Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking two Geotechnical Engineering Summer 2027 Interns to support field evaluations and construction observation in San Jose or Alameda, CA. You will work with staff engineers and assist with subsurface evaluations and calculations, as well as in-house lab tasks.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in Civil/Geotechnical engineering programs (Bachelor's/Master's), with junior/senior status for undergrads, and coursework in soil mechanics or foundation engineering.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Bachelor's or Master's degree program.
• Junior or Senior Year status if an undergraduate student.
• Completed technical electives or master's-level courses related to soil mechanics, engineering geology, or foundation engineering.
• Ability to interpret and apply technical information.
• Able to perform a wide range of physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with geotechnical subsurface evaluations and geotechnical calculations.
• Perform construction phase observation and reporting.
• Assist in the in-house laboratory work and testing.
• Support Principal engineers with project-related tasks.

We will be hiring 2 Geotechnical Engineering Summer 2027 Interns in San Jose or Alameda, CA (San Jose preferred). The successful candidate will work alongside geotechnical staff engineers in the performance of geotechnical field evaluations and construction observation. Duties will include assisting with geotechnical subsurface evaluations and geotechnical calculations, and performance of construction phase observation and reporting. Additional duties may include assisting in our in house laboratory and assisting Principal engineers with project related tasks.

• Current enrollment in a Civil or Geotechnical Engineering Bachelor's or Master'sdegree program required
• Junior or Senior Year status required, if an undergraduate
• Completion of technical electives or Master's-level courses related to soil mechanics, engineering geology, or foundation engineering required
• Ability to interpret and apply technical information
• Able to perform a wide range of physical activities including lifting up to 50 pounds of equipment on occasion
• Valid driver's license with good driving record is required

Salary range: $20-25/hour, depending on qualifications

No housing assistance available; must live within commuting distance of our Alameda or San Jose office during the summer.

OPT or CPT status is acceptable for an internship, but a full-time position will not be available following the completion of the internship if you will require any type of visa sponsorship in the future
