Job summary

GHD is seeking Geotechnical Engineering Interns to join our Geotechnical team for the upcoming summer in Bluffton, SC. You will assist with field and lab testing of soils, asphalt, and concrete, and support engineers with geotechnical fieldwork and soil classification.

Join a dynamic team and gain real-world experience in geotechnical engineering, data collection, and analysis while working in a hybrid environment with three days in-office per week.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level is required or expected for the role.

Responsibilities

• Data Collection and Analysis: assist in collecting data from field and lab sources and preparing reports.
• Geoscientific Studies and Interpretations: assist in analyzing geological/geophysical field data.
• Reservoir Characterization and Analysis: support routine data collection and analysis tasks.
• Engineering Solutions Design: contribute to feasibility testing and feedback for proposed designs.
• Data Management: use databases to access information as needed.
• Knowledge Management: help create content, best practices, and case studies.
• Personal Capability Building: participate in development activities and stay updated with tech and industry practices.
• Project Management: assist with project management activities.
• Research: help with various research activities.
• Technical Troubleshooting: aid in troubleshooting equipment and experiments.
• Exploration Plan Development: contribute to development and implementation of exploration plans.

Education

We’re looking for Geotechnical Engineering Interns to join our Geotechnical team this upcoming summer! This is an excellent opportunity to get some real-world experience in the Geotechnical Engineering industry! In this role you will assist technical staff with field and lab testing of construction materials like soils, asphalt, and concrete, and support engineers with geotechnical fieldwork, soil classification, and lab testing.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Data Collection and Analysis: Produce accurate reports for others by collecting data from a variety of standard sources and inputting it into standard formats.
• Geoscientific Studies and Interpretations: Contribute to well proposals by analyzing and interpreting geological/geophysical field data.
• Reservoir Characterization and Analysis: Help senior colleagues collect and analyze data by carrying out routine reservoir characterization and analysis tasks.
• Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the development of, and implement feasibility testing of, proposed engineering solutions to provide feedback and data to validate the design.
• Data Management: Use data management systems to access specific information as and when required.
• Technical Developments Recommendation: Research and suggest technical developments to improve the quality of the website/portal/software and supporting infrastructure to better meet users’ needs.
• Knowledge Management: Collect and create content, best practices, and case studies to capture and share knowledge.
• Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
• Project Management: Support others by carrying out a range of project management activities.
• Research: Support others by carrying out a range of research activities.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts, aiding in the quick and accurate identification, analysis, and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.
• Exploration Plan Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of exploration plans for specific projects.

What you will bring to the Team:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Level. Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in either Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field

Experience

General Experience: Very limited work based experience (0 to 3 months)

Managerial Experience: None
