Job summary

PTS Advance is seeking a Geotechnical Group Manager in Raleigh, NC to lead our geotechnical, testing, and inspections team. You will own the P&L, drive profitability, and expand client relationships across Raleigh and eastern NC, while mentoring staff and collaborating with other disciplines to ensure project quality and schedule.

The role requires a PE license and 10+ years in geotechnical engineering or related fields, with strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Must hold a civil engineering degree and PE license.
• 10+ years in geotechnical engineering, materials testing, or special inspections.
• Proven leadership and people-management experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage risk and prevent losses.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the geotechnical, testing, and inspections group.
• Own the P&L, invoicing, and revenue recognition for the department.
• Set profitability and growth targets for the department.
• Build client relationships and win new business in Raleigh and eastern NC.
• Review contracts and negotiate with counsel when needed.
• Prepare and review proposals and technical reports.
• Serve as a technical lead on projects.
• Train and mentor staff and technicians.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to keep projects on schedule and quality.

Geotechnical, Testing & Inspections Group Manager | Raleigh, NC | Direct Hire

I'm hiring on behalf of an engineering design and consulting company that needs a leader to take over a proven geotechnical, testing, and inspections group in Raleigh. Steady work is already on the books, and you'd have real ownership over where the group goes next.

What you'll do

• Lead and grow the group, including its technicians, inspectors, and support staff
• Own the P&L, invoicing, and revenue recognition for the department
• Set and drive profitability and growth targets
• Build client relationships across Raleigh and eastern NC, and bring in new business through networking and marketing
• Review contracts and join negotiations with counsel when needed
• Prepare and review proposals and technical reports
• Step in as a technical leader when projects call for it
• Train and mentor staff and technicians
• Partner with the firm's other disciplines in the Raleigh market to keep projects on schedule and quality high

What you bring

• Bachelor's or master's in civil engineering or a related field
• Active PE (NC reciprocity within six months if licensed elsewhere)
• 10+ years in geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and/or special inspections
• Proven leadership and people management experience
• Working knowledge of risk management and loss prevention
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to pass a drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle record review
