Job summary

SIMCO, LLC, the managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), seeks a Geotechnical Engineer for its Carlsbad, NM team. The role covers underground mining geotechnical design, monitoring, and qualification as Cognizant Engineer on AU07 Geomechanical Monitoring.

The successful candidate will collaborate with project engineers, develop safe, economical mining solutions, and implement new techniques for improved performance and compliance with DOE requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with five years of related experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without SIMCO sponsorship.
  • Must obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP site.
  • Non-U.S. citizens from certain security-risk countries may have restricted site access.

Responsibilities

  • Perform underground mining/geotechnical design, development and test duties.
  • Train and qualify as Cognizant Engineer on AU07 Geomechanical Monitoring system.
  • Plan and execute underground mining activities and select suitable methods.
  • Collaborate with project engineers to meet technical requirements and objectives.
  • Evaluate technologies and equipment to improve efficiency and safety.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Mining, Geotechnical or Mechanical Engineering
Five years of related experience
