Job summary

PND Engineers, Inc. in Anchorage is seeking a licensed or soon-to-be-licensed Professional Engineer to join our geotechnical group serving civil projects across Alaska.

You will work on foundation design, slope stability, permafrost and seismic analyses, and prepare contract documents for marine, arctic, and site development projects. Travel to field sites in Alaska and beyond may be required; strong English writing and reporting skills are essential, as is the ability to obtain Alaska PE within

Qualifications

  • Master of science degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with a geotechnical focus.
  • Three plus years of relevant geotechnical consulting experience desired; however, those with less experience are welcome to apply.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain Alaska PE within six months.
  • Experience in cold-regions foundation design and permafrost/arctic engineering highly desired.
  • Strong English writing and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to produce well-organized, clear, complete, and concise technical reports. Candidates will be expected to submit original writing samples for review.
  • Ability to occasionally travel for field work in remote areas throughout Alaska. Travel in other parts of the U.S. and Canada is possible.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Permanent U.S. work authorization required without need for employer sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare geological analyses, foundation design, slope stability analysis, permafrost design, thermal analysis, seismic design, and contract documents for marine structures, arctic structures, retaining walls, soil improvement, roads, bridges and general site civil development—all with an emphasis on foundation systems.
  • Assist in planning on-shore and off-shore geotechnical investigations in settings ranging from urban to remote, and implementing them independently or in a team setting in frozen and thawed ground.
  • The fieldwork and results will be translated by you and our geotechnical team into real-world analyses and problem-solving through the preparation of detailed technical reports crucial to our clients' decision making.
