Job summary

Gunnison Copper seeks a Geotechnical Engineer for the Johnson Camp Mine in Cochise County, Arizona. This hands‑on, site‑based role focuses on monitoring slopes, highwalls, heap‑leach facilities, and other geotechnical areas to develop, implement, and maintain the site's risk management program.

You will interpret monitoring data, manage TARPs, and support blasting and mine sequencing decisions, with frequent field participation and collaboration with operations, geology, and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical/Geological/Mining or Civil Eng.
  • 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of slope stability, ground control, and geotechnical risk management.
  • Experience collecting, reviewing, and interpreting geotechnical field or instrumentation data.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues with engineers, supervisors, operators, and leadership.
  • Willingness to work in an active open‑pit mining environment and outdoor field conditions.
  • Ability to complete MSHA training and comply with site safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the site's geotechnical monitoring and surveillance program.
  • Inspect pit walls, highwalls, heaps, and other geotechnically sensitive areas.
  • Identify ground‑control concerns including cracking, rockfall, erosion, seepage.
  • Review geotechnical monitoring data from prisms, piezometers, inclinometers, InSAR, LiDAR, GPS.
  • Evaluate movement and pore‑pressure trends against trigger levels.
  • Administer TARPs and escalate conditions with increased monitoring or restrictions.
  • Coordinate with Mine Engineering and Operations on blasting and sequencing effects.
  • Provide geotechnical support to heap‑leach operations and water management.
  • Install and plan geotechnical instrumentation; work with external consultants.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, trends, and performance metrics for leadership.
  • Participate in Management of Change reviews affecting geotechnical conditions.
