Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join a major mining group in Welkom, Free State. The role combines on-site geotechnical assessments with remote data analysis and reporting to ensure the stability of underground workings and surface infrastructure.

You will evaluate rock mass conditions, seismic activity, and ground support designs, using FLAC, RS2, and Plaxis for numerical modeling. The position requires travel to mine sites and a strong analytical mindset.

Qualificações

• Master's degree in geotechnical, civil, or mining engineering with geotechnical focus.
• 6–8 years of relevant geotechnical mining experience.
• Proficiency in rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and seismic analysis.
• Experience with geotechnical modeling software (FLAC, RS2, Plaxis).
• Strong analytical, reporting, and communication skills.

Responsabilidades

• Conduct geotechnical investigations and rock mass characterization.
• Monitor ground conditions and seismic activity in mines and pits.
• Design and evaluate rock support systems (bolting, meshing, shotcrete).
• Perform numerical modeling of rock mechanics and slope stability.
• Assess seismic hazards and develop monitoring plans.
• Prepare geotechnical reports and recommendations for operations.
• Collaborate with mine planning, production, and safety teams.
• Conduct site inspections in Welkom, Free State region.
• Mentor junior geotechnical staff; stay updated on industry practices.
