Job summary

Atlas is seeking an Engineer-in-Training to join our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing team in Texas. You will support field investigations, lab testing, and reporting while pursuing PE licensure under senior staff mentorship. The role includes travel and site work on transportation, municipal, and private projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical emphasis) from an ABET-accredited program.
• 1–3 years of geotechnical and/or CMT experience.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required (or FE passed and pursuing).
• Working knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO/TxDOT testing standards and methods.
• Familiarity with soil/rock classification and geotechnical principles.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; exposure to geotechnical software is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reports.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to travel 50–75% and lift field equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to obtain missing certifications within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of geotechnical field investigations.
• Perform materials testing and QA/QC for soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate.
• Coordinate with drilling crews and project teams to meet schedules.
• Log and classify soil/rock samples per ASTM/AASHTO standards.
• Oversee geotechnical laboratory testing and conduct advanced testing.
• Analyze field and lab data to support engineering recommendations.
• Prepare geotechnical data, reports, and construction observation records.
• Support design tasks for foundations, earthwork, and pavements.
