Job summary

GZA GEOENVIRONMENTAL INC in Manhattan, NY is seeking a Mid-Level Geotechnical Engineer / Assistant Project Manager to join our transportation, building, energy, and infrastructure practice. The position will be based in the Manhattan, NY office and involves local and regional travel.

The successful candidate will support projects through proposal, contract, and execution phases, with responsibility for the day-to-day technical delivery of work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) required; intent to obtain PE within 1–2 years.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; master’s may substitute up to 2 years.
• Experience with geotechnical design and construction for foundations, slopes, ground improvement, and related evaluations.
• Ability to perform fieldwork and construction oversight; strong communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and oversee subsurface exploration and field testing activities.
• Assist with task management on large project teams or independently manage smaller projects.
• Execute day-to-day technical tasks and contribute to geotechnical report deliverables.
• Monitor project performance, budgets, and contractual compliance.
• Assist with proposal development and authorship of geotechnical reports.
• Support staff training and cross‑team collaboration.
