Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Edison, NJ infrastructure services team. You will develop designs for foundations, dewatering, dams, and geo-environmental projects under supervision, ensuring alignment with client specs.

The role requires a Geotechnical/Civil/Mining or Geologic Engineering degree with 1 year of experience; travel is expected. Master’s degree is preferred, and strong CAD and MS Office skills are essential.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering; 1 year of related experience.
Domestic and/or international travel may be required; travel up to 60–90%.
Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

Create excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental projects under supervision.
Develop engineering designs of basic to moderate complexity to meet client project requirements.
Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
Update design requirements as necessary.
Perform soil sampling analyses and modeling.
Contribute to firm's Technical Knowledge Management by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc..
Submit technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
Perform other duties as required.
May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
