Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer II in Raleigh, NC to apply analytical skills across commercial and telecom markets. You will coordinate field subs, perform soil/rock classifications, lab analyses, and engineering calculations for foundations and pavements.

The position requires 4–7 years of geotechnical experience, ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering (M.S. a plus), EI registration (PE preferred), and a hybrid work arrangement with travel less than 10%.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited B.S. in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering is required.
• M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering or related field is a plus.
• EI registration required; PE registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with geotechnical drilling subcontractors to execute field aspects of investigations.
• Perform soil and rock classifications and conduct laboratory analyses for geotechnical engineering purposes.
• Conduct field resistivity testing, foundation monitoring, hand auger testing, and field logging of soils as needed.
• Complete geotechnical engineering calculations for existing foundations and design of new foundation elements, pavements, and earth retention systems.
• Consult with internal and external related disciplines during analysis and report preparation phases.
• Prepare and compile technical reports and supporting documentation.
• Manage individual workload efficiently to meet project deadlines.
• Coordinate and oversee subcontract drillers, private utility locators, and other investigation aspects.

Essential Skills

• 4 to 7 years of experience in geotechnical or similar engineering fields.
• Experience with deep and shallow foundations.
• Proficiency in laboratory soil analyses.
• Ability to issue technical reports with limited supervision.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with geotechnical analysis programs such as Shaft and gINT is advantageous.
• Familiarity with computer drafting software like AutoCAD is beneficial.
• Experience with slope stability software such as STABL Suite or Geoslope is a plus.
• Bachelor of Science in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution required.
• M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering or related field is a plus.
• EI registration required; PE registration preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a self-motivated attitude.
• Team-oriented with a focus on career advancement and ability to grow into senior roles.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
