Job summary

Construction Testing Services in Rocklin, CA is seeking an entry level geotechnical staff engineer to join our geotechnical department. The role focuses on field explorations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical analyses under the supervision of a licensed geotechnical engineer.

Qualified candidates will have a B.S. in Civil Engineering with geotechnical emphasis or be able to obtain one soon, plus an E.I.T or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering with geotechnical focus or ability to obtain prior to hire.
• Strong fundamentals of soil mechanics and foundation design.
• Self-starter, highly motivated and able to work in fast paced environments.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform site reconnaissance and draft geotechnical proposals.
• Conduct field explorations (borings, test pits, CPT, DCP, infiltration tests).
• Perform and review geotechnical laboratory tests.
• Analyze shallow and deep foundation design, pavement design and slope stability.
• Draft geotechnical reports and consulting letters.
• Review project plans, specifications and field reports.
• Assist in field testing and construction inspections.
• Communicate with clients under supervision of a licensed geotechnical engineer.

Job description

Construction Testing Services (CTS) is seeking an entry level geotechnical staff engineer to join our geotechnical department in our Rocklin office. CTS provides geotechnical consulting, materials testing and special inspection services to a wide variety of private and public projects including low-rise commercial and industrial buildings, medical clinics, office and mixed-use buildings, hotels, low- to mid-rise residential buildings including apartment complexes, subdivisions and low-income housing, schools, hospitals, storage tanks, tank farms, pump stations, carports, canopies, billboard signs, bridges, airports, roadways, flood control and levee embankments.

Requirements/Qualifications:

• Possession of a B.S. in Civil Engineering with a focus on geotechnical engineering or ability to obtain one prior to hire (upcoming graduates are encouraged to apply)
• Possession of an E.I.T certificate or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
• Sound knowledge of fundamentals of soil mechanics and foundation design via college curriculum
• Self-starter and highly motivated
• Ability to adapt to fast paced environment and exercise sound engineering judgement
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently and in groups
• Willingness to learn and expand technical knowledge
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities:

• Perform site reconnaissance and draft geotechnical proposals
• Perform geotechnical exploratory work in the field (borings, test pits, CPT, DCP, percolation/infiltration tests, etc.)
• Perform and review geotechnical laboratory tests
• Perform geotechnical analyses including but not limited to: shallow and deep foundation design, slab-on-grade support, pavement design, slope stability, earth retaining, site-specific seismic hazard analyses, settlement sensitivity, etc.
• Draft geotechnical reports and consulting letters
• Review project plans and specifications
• Review inspectors' daily field reports
• Perform field testing and inspections during construction
• Communicate with clients

All work would be performed under the supervision and direction of a licensed geotechnical engineer.
