Job summary

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Soil Design Section seeks a Geotechnical Engineer Associate to learn under a licensed professional engineer on state highway and interstate projects in Ames, IA. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil, chemical, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.
• Certification as Engineer in Training (EIT) or licensure as a professional engineer in Iowa is expected within 6 years.
• Ambition to pursue FE exam and PE licensure.

Responsibilities

• Perform geotechnical engineering work in roadway/bridge plan preparation.
• Assist with emergency response projects.
• Evaluate foundation support for bridges and culverts and provide recommendations.
