WSP is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join the Geotechnical and Tunneling Team. The position is based in the Northeast, with offices in Portland, ME and other New England locations.

The role involves field observation, subsurface investigations, and design work for bridges, tunnels, and underground structures. Responsibilities include preparing reports, coordinating inspections, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical or Tunneling emphasis.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant geotechnical experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with geotechnical design software listed above.

Responsibilities

• Perform/coordinate field observation and inspections of subsurface investigations.
• Design and analyze geotechnical aspects for bridges, buildings, tunnels, and retaining walls.
• Prepare memoranda, data reports and design reports.
• Assist with geotechnical construction observations and reports.
• Collaborate with project teams and other disciplines.

Job description

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Geotechnical Engineer for our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team!

This position can sit out of the following WSP offices:

• Portland, ME
• Boston, MA
• North Providence, RI
• Glastonbury, CT
• Worcester, MA
• Shelton, CT
• Merrimack, NH
• Other WSP offices throughout New England can be considered.

Job Duties

• Perform/coordinate field observation and special inspection of subsurface investigations in soils and rock
• Perform geotechnical engineering design and analyses for bridges, buildings, tunnels, underground structures, and retaining walls under minimal supervision of senior engineers
• Prepare/draft geotechnical memoranda, data reports and design reports
• Perform/coordinate field observation and special Inspection of geotechnical construction
• Assist task leaders in preparation of reports and Contract Documents
• Collaborate with other disciplines and project partners
• Assist to develop and coordinate geotechnical work in New England and other areas
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree Civil Engineering with a concentration in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering, or a closely-related field
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience
• Extensive knowledge of geotechnical engineering and working knowledge of related disciplines (Structures, Civil, and/or Environmental)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GeoSlope, Plaxis, Settle, LPILE, GROUP, GRLWEAP, SEEP/W, RockSciences Software, etc), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and other tools.
• Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in work environment
• Ability and willingness to travel and perform field work
• Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screeningExercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
• Upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Geotechnical or Tunneling Engineering.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Prior design and/or construction experienceof highway, bridge, building, and underground projects.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards
• 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
• Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
• A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
