Job summary

Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. (GTR) is seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer for its Massachusetts office in Chelmsford to support fieldwork and testing, including foundation inspection, boring inspection, and pile testing.

The role is roughly 75% field-based with occasional short trips; requires a civil engineering degree and 0–3 years of geotechnical experience, plus a valid driver’s license and strong communication/writing skills. Comprehensive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

• Support travel as needed and coordinate with field crews.

Geotech Field Engineering Position – Chelmsford, MA

Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. and GTR Engineering of NY (GTR)

GTR, a dynamic and growing Geotechnical Engineering and consulting firm with offices in North Chelmsford, MA, and Armonk, NY, is currently seeking a Geotechnical Field Engineer with 0 to 3 years of experience to join our Massachusetts and New York offices.

We specialize in deep foundation design, instrumentation, and testing. Our engineers are involved in a wide array of services, including static and dynamic load testing of driven and drilled piles, non‑destructive testing, quality assessment of drilled shafts, drivability analysis, field inspection, and more.

Job Responsibilities

Approximately 75% of your responsibilities will initially be fieldwork, with periodic short trips of one to two days supporting either of our offices.

In the Field

• Foundation construction inspection

In the Office

• Design and analysis of both deep and shallow foundations
• Interpretation of testing data

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required, along with a focused interest and desire to specialize in the Geotechnical discipline.
• 0 to 3 years of experience in a Geotechnical field engineering role.
• A valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to worksite.

Skills & Abilities

• Strong communication skills, both internally and externally
• A practical, "hands‑on" approach.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and basic electronics is beneficial.
• Good organizational and computer skills.
• Excellent writing skills for reports and other documentation.
• Availability to work overtime as needed.
• Ability and willingness to travel, including day trips and occasional overnight stays.
• Ability to carry 50 lbs. over short distances and climb slopes.
