Job summary

Kleinfelder is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer in Boston to lead field activities, oversee project execution, and mentor junior staff across New England. The role emphasizes geotechnical analyses, foundation design, and coordination with clients and subcontractors.

The ideal candidate has a PE, 6–10 years of experience, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel for fieldwork and site visits under various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 6 to 10 years of related experience.
• Licensed PE in the appropriate state or ability to obtain licensure in MA.
• Ability to travel and perform field work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Direct junior staff to perform field activities including geotechnical drilling, laboratory testing, and construction observations with subcontractors.
• Coordinate geotechnical tasks and manage medium to large size geotechnical projects.
• Review construction submittals and daily field reports.
• Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and prepare reports for design and construction of foundations.
• Review work of and mentor junior staff.
• Prepare contract specifications and drawings.
• Interrelate with external clients and subcontractors.
• Provide quality technical support on municipal, commercial, transportation, energy, and water projects; design/build projects preferred.
• Strong analytical skills in earth retention systems design, shallow/deep foundation design, ground improvements, and earthquake engineering.
• Experience with drilling oversight and soil/rock classification; construction oversight including subgrade observations, backfill/compaction, deep foundations; HDD or tunnel design experience a plus.

The Geotechnical team in Boston expects the Senior Geotechnical Engineer to work on challenging projects across New England.

Education & Experience

• 6 to 10 years of related experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
• Positive work attitude and ability to work safely and efficiently when managing multiple tasks and junior staff.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel and perform field work under inclement weather and physically demanding conditions.
• Self‑motivated, organized, with a keen sense of detail.
• Availability to work additional hours beyond a standard 40‑hour week when needed.
