Job summary

ECS Group of Companies in Baton Rouge, LA, seeks a geotechnical field support staff to assist on geotechnical projects and document site observations for construction materials testing and field work. Duties include boring/test pit layouts, drilling packages, utility clearances, and researching local geologic history.

In-situ testing and soil classification may be required. A bachelor’s or master’s degree is required; licensure not required now but needed to advance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor and/or Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, or similar is required.
• No experience required.
• Professional license is not required in this position but is necessary to progress in career.
• If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist staff with field tasks supporting geotechnical projects and document site observations for CMT and field work.
• Perform boring and test pit layouts, prepare drilling packages and obtain utility clearances.
• Perform in-situ testing and classify soils.
• Assist with supervision of field work performed by drilling/test pit crews and assist with rig access issues.

• Primarily involved with assisting staff with field tasks supporting geotechnical projects
• Responsibilities include clearly documenting site observations for both construction materials testing (CMT) and geotechnical field work performed
• Other duties may include assisting with or performing the following with limited supervision:
  • Perform boring and test pit layouts
  • Prepare drilling packages and obtain utility clearances
  • Perform research on local geologic history
  • Assist with supervision of field work performed by drilling/test pit crews and assist with rig access issues.
  • Perform in-situ testing
  • Classify soils
