Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Careers is seeking a technician to provide technical support to geotechnical drilling operations, collect data, and assist in preliminary engineering design and investigations for construction activities.

You will communicate with VDOT staff and consultants, help monitor contract drilling, log boreholes, operate drilling tools under supervision, and maintain daily project records and reports.

Qualifications

• Identify soils and rock per USCS classification.
• Learn local geology and subsurface investigation practices.
• Obtain and maintain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months.
• Obtain required certifications within 12 months.
• Operate and maintain geotechnical drilling equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to geotechnical program areas and drilling operations.
• Assist in monitoring contract drilling operations for compliance.
• Prepare daily project documentation and logging.
• Record data to meet deadlines and policy requirements.
• Assist with field surveys, boring logs, and site surveys.
