Job summary

State of Oregon via the Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) seeks a Geoscience Communications Specialist for the agency’s operations programs. This limited-duration role coordinates the messaging of earth science information to inform natural resource management across local to statewide levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business/Public Administration/Public Relations/Marketing/Journalism or related social sciences or degree focus in Geology/geography/geomorphology/paleontology or related physical sciences, or equivalent agency messaging experience.
• Three years technical or higher-level experience directly related to the position under recruitment.
• Experience with writing newsletters, news articles, and press releases to external audiences.
• Experience with website information architecture and publishing layouts for newsletters and press releases.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop, edit, distribute, and message the agency’s operational earth science and mining information to inform resource management at local, regional, and statewide levels.
• Maintain and manage website content; coordinate with communications staff to meet professional science communication standards.
• Write and edit reports, newsletters, and public-facing materials to ensure clarity and accuracy.
