QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Mathematics, or be eligible for one. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field is required, while a Master's degree is preferred. The candidate should have a solid understanding of geometry and other mathematical concepts, demonstrating proficiency in teaching both Geometry and Algebra 1. Prior teaching experience at the middle or high school level is preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to effectively integrate technology into the classroom to enhance student learning. A commitment to continuous professional development and staying up to date with educational best practices and standards is critical.

DESCRIPTION

The Geometry Teacher will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Geometry to middle or high school students, fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment. The teacher will develop lesson plans aligned with state standards, promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and ensure that students gain a comprehensive understanding of geometry concepts. In addition to teaching Geometry, the instructor will assist students in building a strong foundation in Algebra 1, preparing them for future success in higher-level mathematics courses.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

  • Develop and implement an engaging and standards-aligned Geometry curriculum, incorporating a range of instructional strategies and resources.
  • Create lesson plans that align with state standards and the school's curriculum, catering to diverse learning styles and meeting the needs of all students.
  • Deliver engaging and effective Geometry instruction, using a variety of teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles.
  • Assess student performance through tests, quizzes, homework, and other assignments, and provide timely feedback to promote academic growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about student progress, concerns, and achievements.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and collaborative planning sessions.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages respect, inclusivity, and active learning.
  • Utilize classroom technology to enhance instruction and engage students in the learning process.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including English language learners, students with disabilities, and advanced learners.
  • Offer individualized support and enrichment opportunities to ensure all students are challenged and successful in their learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

SUPERVISION

Work is performed under the supervision of the School Principal and other administrators as appropriate.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties performed are typically in the school setting. Performs professional work providing support and consultative services for assigned department/program. Work requires frequent standing, sitting, walking, and light lifting. Some assignments are subject to deadlines inherent in tailoring and delivering programs to meet the needs of diverse groups. Employees may be required to perform emergency and non-emergency health-related services for students as needed.

CONTRACT LENGTH

200 Days

The salary for this position applies to candidates who are properly licensed and endorsed in the areas for which they teach.

Associate Teachers serve in full teaching roles while receiving support and guidance as they work toward licensure. The Associate Teacher salary for 2025-26 is approximately $48,265 (pending budget approval).
